Is lane splitting legal in California?+
California law recognizes and defines lane splitting as riding a two-wheeled motorcycle between rows of stopped or moving vehicles in the same lane. Whether a rider or another driver acted reasonably remains dependent on the specific traffic, speed, visibility, and movement evidence. See California Vehicle Code §21658.1.
Does California require motorcycle helmets?+
Yes. California Vehicle Code §27803 generally requires motorcycle drivers and passengers to wear a qualifying safety helmet that fits securely and is properly fastened. Helmet evidence can matter to an injury analysis, but it does not by itself determine who caused the collision. See California Vehicle Code §27803.
How long do I have to file a motorcycle injury claim?+
California's ordinary deadline for an action involving personal injury caused by another person's wrongful act or neglect is generally two years.
